1. Nine on the Hudson

New Jersey, New York.

Marchetto Higgins Stieve architecture has created a tiered 278-condo complex in New Jersey's Hoboken oriented to provide amazing corner views of Manhattan across the Hudson.

The sleek development by local K Hovnanian Homes also includes communal spaces with an outdoor lounge, a wet bar, and multiple fire pits as well as outdoor heaters.

And then there's that infinity edge pool that drifts seamlessly towards the most famous skyline in the world without interruption. It comes with a hot tub, as well.

2. Melbourne Square

Southbank, Melbourne.

Cox Architecture has embraced the resort-style living concept for an exciting new OSK Property development Melbourne Square at Southbank.

The first stage - two high-end residential elliptical towers of 54 and 69 levels - will have an area for residents that will be the largest park in its vicinity. And the crowning glory of that space will be a resort-worthy heated pool, comprising a 25-metre lap pool and leisure plunge area with infinity edge, overlooking port Phillip Bay.

"The pool is a pretty unique piece set amongst the private landscape and on top of a podium. The height of the podium will enable amazing views over the bay," says director of Cox Architecture, Paul Curry.

But there is also so much on offer beyond the water. "We've set about creating a series of different places for different types of activity or different people: parkland, different pods with barbecue and lounge facilities, dining areas - it's really about providing real liveability."

The entire Melbourne Square development, when fully completed, will comprise more than 2600 apartments, a hotel, commercial precinct, a childcare centre and dining and retail including a supermarket.

3. Burj Khalifa

Dubai.

Dubai's 160-storey Burj Khalifa remains the world's tallest building, and is home to residential, office space, the Armani Hotel Dubai and the Armani Residences.

It has four pools, but residents can mingle with other locals at the Rooftop Pool on the third floor terrace, adjacent to The Burj Club fitness facilities.

It's the scene of the Burj Club's new Rooftop Soiree. For three nights a week, from Wednesday to Friday, AED150 ($54) gets sunset access to the pool, where DJs and giant inflatables create the party vibe.

4. Aston Martin Residences at 300 Biscayne Boulevard.

It's a pool in James Bond-style. The iconic British sports car maker favoured by 007 is lending its allure to a luxury condominium complex in association with G&G Developments.

Aston Martin Residences is a curved glass and steel building on the Miami waterfront, with nearly 400 condos including a $US50 million penthouse.

Residents have access to almost 4000 square metres of Sky Amenities across four full levels between the building's 52nd and 55th floors, with a gorgeous pool overlooking the ocean just one aspect alongside a double-level fitness centre virtual golf room, art gallery, two cinemas, spa and barber.

5. Honeycomb

New Providence, The Bahamas.

If you don't like to socialise and swim, here lies the answer.

Danish architecture firm Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) and real estate company Douglas Elliman have created an astonishing geometric mid-rise with 34 apartments ranging from two bedrooms to seven-bedroom penthouses.

It's part of the luxury The Albany complex and takes a spot right on the marina, and with direct access to it. As if that's not special enough, each unit has it's own terrace featuring a triangular private pool with glass-encased infinity edge, looking out to sea.

A similar concept, the much discussed high-rise Bandra Ohm in Mumbai, will feature balcony infinity pools across 30 storeys.
