AFL Victoria is yet to release its full 2018 Community Championships fixture, but the BFNL has been informed it has been slated to play the Hampden league in Warrnambool on Saturday, May 19.
After this year’s re-rankings AFL Yarra Ranges had loomed as Bendigo’s 2018 opponent.
Bendigo dropped to No.11 in the rankings after its 11-point loss to Ballarat, while AFL Yarra Ranges moved to No.12 after beating Gippsland by 60 points.
However, it’s expected when the fixture is unveiled it will be a Bendigo v Hampden match-up in 2018.
Bendigo and Hampden last played in an inter-league game under the former carnival format of three shortened games in 2004. Hampden won by 61 points.
Meanwhile, a start date of Saturday, April 14, has been set for the BFNL season next year.
