Three theatre companies in Bendigo have received nominations at the Musical Theatre Guild of Victoria Awards.

Bendigo Theatre Company received four nominations for its production of Legally Blonde with the show being nominated for technical achievement alongside Vern Wall and Ken Wells (best sets), Ian Scott (best lighting) and Abe Watson (best male in a leading role).
In the junior section both Tribe Youth Theatre and Nexus Bendigo Youth Theatre were recognised.
Tribe staged its debut production – Barnum – in September after forming at the start of the year as part of Bendigo Theatre Company.
Tribe’s Claire Sexton (best choerography) and Cedar-Rose Russell (junior female in a leading role) were nominated for individual awards while the Barnum production will receive an award of excellence.
Nexus was the first community youth group to stage Phantom of the Opera in the southern hemisphere.
Kody Austin was nominated for junior male in a supporting role for his portrayal of Raoul.
The awards recognise the efforts of non-professional musical theatre in Victoria will be held at Bendigo’s Ulumbarra Theatre on December 9. It is the first time the awards have been held in a regional area.
