Volunteers from local Rotary clubs and YMCA Eaglekawk will again be on hand to feed the masses when the swap meet begins on Saturday.
Swap meet chairman Ashley Gray said the groups provided all the food at the event, with profits going back into the community.
As this video from Rotary Club of Bendigo Next Generation shows, hungry car enthusiasts last year munched through 900 bread loaves, 5000 rolls, 600 steak sandwiches, and 290 kilograms of sausages.
Mr Gray expected the town’s hotels and caravan to be booked out over the weekend.
“People will start queuing at the gate on Thursday night. We won’t let them in until Friday but they will be coming,” he said.
“There will be people here from all around Australia.”
About 80 swap meet volunteers spent Wednesday marking out more than 1700 sites which this weekend will be bursting with everything automotive.
About 85 per cent of everything on show will appeal to car enthusiasts, with space also set aside for bric-a-brac.
Mr Gray said there were people who had been coming to the event since its inception 43 years ago.
“It’s more than a chance to swap car parts. People are selling parts, but they are also coming to catch up with friends and relatives,” he said.
Among the highlights, Mr Gray said one of the largest displays of die-cast cars and trucks in Australia would take pride of place in one of the sheds.
“When I say a display, I mean too that most of those die-cast models will be for sale,” he said.
Meanwhile, Fordson tractors would be on display in the Exhibition Centre. Fordsons were sometimes likened to Model T Fords for helping older generations bring tractors to farms.
“It’s been 100 years since Fordson began its involvement in Australia. Every year we try to promote something that has made a substantial contribution to Australia,” Mr Gray said.
The Bendigo National Swap Meet begins this Saturday at the Bendigo Prince of Wales Showgrounds.
