EARLIER: Fire authorities will this week carry out planned burns south of Bendigo, with residents being warned to expect the sight of smoke.
Forest Fire Management Victoria and the CFA have advised smoke might be visible from properties in Castlemaine and Harcourt while burns are conducted in the Walmer state forest.
Weather conditions permitting, the two agencies anticipate a 10.3-hectare fuel reduction 2.5 kilometres north west of Castlemaine and a 24.2 hectare burn 3.5 kilometres north east of the town.
The burns should be completed between 10am and 8pm on Tuesday, although smoke could persist until Thursday.
