Charlton born Major General Harold Edward "Pompey" Elliott lead Australian Imperial Force soldiers at Gallipoli and on the Western Front.
McMullin has written Pompey Elliott at War: In His Own Words, a biography of Pompey Elliott based on the major-general’s wartime letters and diaries.
Pompey Elliott had a close connection with Bendigo — with Bendigo’s original enlisters in 1914 joining the 7th AIF Battalion, which Pompey led into action at the Gallipoli landing.
McMullin will give a talk on his new book at the Bendigo Library on Tuesday, November 14, at 5.30pm.
He will also speak on the battle of Polygon Wood — where Pompey Elliott was exceptional — at the National Hotel at 7.30pm. McMullin will also speak at the Heathcote RSL on November 15 at 5.30pm and Faulder Watson Hall in Castlemaine on November 16 at 8pm.
