Armed robbers ram police, threaten homeowner with gun

Three men who pulled a firearm on a homeowner in Melbourne's south-east in the early hours of Saturday morning may be the same group who rammed two police cars about 24 hours earlier in what police believe was a stolen BMW.

Police are searching for the group after losing them in a car chase following an aggravated burglary in Bittern, on Western Port, about 3.30am on Saturday.

The group - believed to be three men - pulled a firearm on the residents of a Stony Point Road home after he confronted them as they tried to break into his shed.

No shots were fired, no injuries were reported and the group fled the scene.

Police chased a dark BMW but soon lost sight of the car, last seen on the Western Port Highway in Somerville.

Police believe the car may be the same which rammed two police cars in a Carrum Downs McDonald's in the early hours of Friday morning.

Police were trying to talk to the driver of a grey BMW X5 in the drive-through lane at the eatery just before 1am because the car's registration plates did not match the car.

The driver then rammed a police car in front of him and reversed into a second police car.

A police member received minor injuries and the rear of the BMW was badly damaged.

A second man, believed to be a passenger in the car at the time, was remanded on outstanding warrants.
