THURSDAY, 5pm: Canadian musician Scott Cook might only be at the festival for one day but he is impressing crowds.
Cook played in Hargreaves Mall this afternoon and engaged the crowds with his stories and songs.
He will be at the Golden Vine tonight from 9pm with Sam Newton, and The Barren Spinsters.
The official festival launch party has just got underway at Gold Dust Lounge.
Other venues hosting acts tonight at St Paul’s Cathedral, GPO, Basement Bar, the Manchester Arms and Gold Dust Lounge.
THURSDAY, 11am: Local performer Sherri Parry was determined to make it to the stage for this year’s Bendigo Blues and Roots Music Festival.
Despite sustaining a wrist injury this morning, Parry powered through her 11am set to kick off the festival.
She is the first of 140 acts that will play across 50 venues in Bendigo and the surrounding region over the next four days.
Unique venues add to festival
The basement of the Bendigo Town Hall will hold a Freeza All Ages Event as part of the BBRMF.
Local band Animal Time – lead by guitarist Sean Nudl – will kick off the night at 7pm. Animal Time puts theri own spin on range of covers from the 60s to present day.
Also performing is 23-year-old singer-songwriter Tullara and two-piece Melbourne rock outfit King of the North.
Tickets are $5 on the door. Doors open at 7pm.
The town hall’s basement is one of many new and unique venues added to the festival this year.
Blues tram set to roll
It’s not the Bendigo Blues and Roots Music Festival with out the Blues Tram trundling through the city centre.
The BBRMF’s mobile stage will hit the road four times this weekend.
Leaving Central Deborah Gold Mine and returning two hours later, it features two acts on each trip.
Genevieve Chadwick and David Spry (Friday at 7pm), Simon Wright and Miss Whiskey (Saturday at 2pm), Shakura Chapman and Travis Bowlin (Saturday at 8pm), and Simon and Tammy London and Phil Manning (Sunday at 1pm) will play on board the tram.
