Sell has had four previous three runners in the $100,000 Kyneton Cup and each time they have finished at the rear of the field.

He will target this year’s 2000m feature race with Penny To Sell, who blitzed her rivals top win last month’s $20,000 Gunbower Cup.

The six-year-old mare followed up with a second in the $20,000 Avoca Cup and was far from disgraced when fourth at Moonee Valley over 2040m last Friday night.

“She’s pulled up well from Friday night and drawn a good barrier – we’re hoping she runs in the first five,” Sell said.

“She’s been very consistent in her races.

“My last three Kyneton Cup runners have been last, last and last, so I can only go forward.”

Sell is the only Kyneton trainer left with a runner in the 11-horse field, following the scratching of the Bob Challis-trained The Donchess on Tuesday morning.

Leading trainer Darren Weir will be chasing back-to-back cups following Taiyoo’s win in 2016.

Weir, who has a pair of runners in today’s $6 million Emirates Melbourne Cup, has Benalla Cup (2040m) runner-up Moonovermanhattan and Ruling Dynasty eyeing the $55,000 first prize.

Cranbourne trainer Robbie Laing, who won consecutive cups in 2014-15 with Tristram’s Sun, has recent Morphettville winner Temps Voleur entered.

It shapes as a busy day for Sell, who will have as many as four runners in action on cup day.

He has Alejandra contesting a benchmark 64 handicap (1100m), Carlingford entered in a benchmark 84 (1200m) and Maximus the second emergency in a benchmark 70 (1450m).

His best chance of a win appears to be the four-year-old Maximus, who has a win at Geelong and a second at Swan Hill to his name this campaign.

A nine-race program at bet365 Park Kyneton kicks-off at 12.30pm, with the cup timed to start at 4.40pm.
