Macedon Ranges highway patrol officer Senior Constable Jamie Jordan said concertgoers should still enjoy themselves, but needed to remember police “could be anywhere and will be everywhere”.
“Previous concerts have seen people drink to excess, make poor, possibly life changing decisions, and drive while alcohol and or drug affected," he said.
“We don’t want that this year - just make an alternative arrangement to get home, that’s all we ask and for you to think about the consequences.
“Police make no apologies for targeting this type of behaviour at the event and urge all motorists to take road safety personally.”
The activity follows a similar police operation at last year’s Bruce Springsteen concert, one that netted eight drink drivers. Many more registered blood-alcohol readings close to .05, meaning they took the risk of driving after having a drink.
Central Victoria will be awash with rock music fans today with Jimmy Barnes also scheduled to perform in the region; his show at Sutton Grange Winery starts at 3.30pm this afternoon.
