MIDDLETON Prison escape accused Matthew Drew has appeared in court facing seven charges after he was arrested in Swan Hill on Saturday – eight days after his alleged escape.

Drew, 26, of Kangaroo Flat, appeared in the Bendigo Magistrates’ Court on Monday via video link from a Swan Hill court.
His hands were handcuffed behind his back and he was flanked by two police officers.
Drew was charged with escaping the Middleton Prison on October 20 when he allegedly fled from community work in Muckleford.
Police then allege he stole a 2008 Holden Rodeo ute which was driven to Torrumbarry, near the Murray River.
Drew allegedly stole $43.25 in fuel from Caltex Torrumbarry on October 25. He was also charged with the theft of a motor vehicle from Torrumbarry on the same day.
He was charged with allegedly trespassing and attempting to steal a caravan from the banks of the Murray River at Torrumbarry.
His final two charges related to driving whilst disqualified.
He was arrested in Swan Hill on Saturday.
During his brief court appearance, defence counsel Glen Cooper said Drew required access to methadone and a mental health nurse while in custody.
Drew did not apply for bail and was remanded in custody to appear in the Bendigo Magistrates’ Court on November 20.
