The Bulldogs have announced Ben Knight as their latest addition ahead of the 2018 Heathcote District league season.
Knight joins North Bendigo as a one-point player, having previously played junior football at the Bulldogs, as well as seniors.
The 23-year-old goalkicking midfielder has spent the past three seasons at Calivil United, which included captaining the Demons to the premiership this year, as well as winning the league’s Harding Medal.
“I’ve spoken to Ant (Dennis, Calivil coach) about looking to better my footy by going to a different league and my three best mates, Zac Alford, Jordan Collins and Blayne Ryan-Storey, are at North Bendigo,” Knight said on Thursday.
“I’m really looking forward to playing with my best mates at the club I used to play for.”
Knight says it wasn’t an easy decision to leave the Demons given the successful year in which the club won its first LVFNL flag since 2008.
“I’ve put a lot of thought into it, and all the boys at Calivil are my life-long mates… nothing can take away what we achieved this year,” said Knight, who is up north playing for Waratahs in the Northern Territory league
“So going from that to making the decision to leave was hard, but at the same time, I had the full support of Ant, who understands that playing with your mates is the best thing about footy.”
With Blayne Ryan-Storey also returning to North Bendigo, he will be another Bulldogs’ premiership player back at the club, having played in the 2016 flag.
