City of Greater Bendigo mayor Margaret O’Rourke hosted a civic reception on Monday night for players and officials of the Bendigo Women’s Football Club and Bendigo Lady Braves basketball team.
The Thunder scored two premiership wins in the 2017 season, with their senior team winning the Northern Football League Women’s flag and their reserves claiming the honours in the inaugural season of the Northern Country Women’s League.
They claimed the inaugural NFLW premiership with a 10-point win over Diamond Creek.
Meanwhile, the Braves captured the South East Australian Basketball League south conference championship with a stirring win over Launceston Tornadoes in September.
The Lady Braves narrowly missed making it a pair of championships, under former coach Jonathan Goodman, narrowly losing the national championship grand final against Geelong Supercats.
They were chasing their first national championship since 2007.
A massive season for the Thunder was capped last Friday when star midfielder and this season’s joint best and fairest Tiahna Cochrane was rookie drafted to AFLW club Carlton.
