ATTENDANCE at this year’s Bendigo Show was the “best ever”, organisers believe.
Bendigo Agricultural Show Society secretary Rod Bowles said gate takings were “well up” on previous shows – about 10 per cent higher than the well attended 2015 show.
“The put two days of weather today for our show was a bit unique,” he said. Read more here.
EARLIER: This year’s Bendigo kicked off with a huge host of displays and judging on Friday morning.
As the rides warmed up and visitors started streaming through the gates, show jumping and sheep shearing competitors were put through their paces. Judging was also held for the cattle, pigs, goats and poultry.
Bendigo Agricultural Show secretary Rod Bowles said it was good to have the “show on the road” after a huge build up.
“It’s going really well, the weather fantastic and we had good numbers early on Friday,” he said. “Friday evening is always good with the circus and animals attracting families as well as fireworks.”
The show continues on Saturday with more agricultural, arts and crafts displays as well as a dog, cat, highland dancing, horse, ute and woodchop competitions.
Mr Bowles said there was no shortage of fun.
“The shearing and wool handling has competitors from all over Australia and there are plenty of dagwood dogs, fairy floss and side shows to enjoy,” he said.

► What does it take to become an award-winning knitter? Bess McGuire should know, having claimed a swag of awards in this year’s show.
► Yvonne Stewart says being a cooking judge at the show is a pretty good job – we doubt she would have many people challenge her on that! Especially when the standards are as high as Ms Stewart says they have been this year. Take a look at some of the mouthwatering entries.
