The Crows continued their promising start to the season with a 72-run win over Maiden Gully on Saturday.
A century to opener Joel Bish – his fifth in the EVCA – proved the catalyst for the Crows’ 7-243 off 40 overs as for the second week in a row they again scored at better than a run-a-ball.
Jesse Marciano’s 61 was also valuable for the Crows as he added 119 for the third wicket with Bish.
Brett Haw (3-35 off 7) and Rob Brown (3-49 off 8) picked up three wickets apiece for Maiden Gully, which was restricted to 7-171 in its chase.
In what was its first loss of the season, only Dallas Gill (54) and Darcy Poulter (39) made more than 20 for the Gully.
Skipper Alex Sutton (3-33 off 8) was the leading wicket-taker for the Crows.
• Sedgwick recruit Daniel Chamberlain scored a century in the Rams’ win over West Bendigo.
Chamberlain’s 111 helped the Rams answer the Redbacks’ competitive 7-228 with 4-268 to win by 40 runs.
Opener Chamberlain crunched 17 boundaries in his innings, with he and Matt Dwyer (41) putting on 107 for the first wicket.
Andrew Sheehan (37 n.o.) and coach Greg Thomas (35) also kept the runs flowing for the Rams.
Andrew Mead (2-49 off 6) claimed two scalps for West Bendigo, while Tarran Kilcullen (1-29 off 8) was the Redbacks’ most economical.
Kilcullen’s wicket was Chamberlain, who he bowled.
Earlier after winning the toss and batting, the bulk of the Redbacks’ 7-228 came from skipper Travis O’Connell and Mead.
Opener O’Connell belted 77, while Mead scored 73 at No.5.
As well as his impact with the bat, Chamberlain (3-54 off 7) also made his mark with the ball for the Rams with three wickets.
• United continued its dominance of Marong with a 24-run victory at Ewing Park.
The Tigers haven’t lost to the Panthers’ since 2010-11, with their score of 9-161 proving out of Marong’s reach.
For the second time in three innings this season Josh White (57) passed 50 for the Tigers to be the best of the United batsmen.
The Panthers, who remain winless, shared their wickets around, with all six bowlers used taking a scalp.
Duane Anderson (2-31 off 8), Ryan Murphy (2-21 off 6) and captain Tom Wilson (2-40 off 8) all claimed two apiece.
In reply the Panthers lost their last five wickets for 31 runs to be all out for 137 with three overs left unfaced.
Left-armer Andrew Duguid did the bulk of the damage with the ball for the Tigers in taking 4-31 off seven overs to continue his solid start to the season.
Anderson hit five fours in finishing unbeaten on 40 for the Panthers, who also had opener Chris Dixon compile 34. Greg Fennell (12) was the only other player to reach double figures.
• Mandurang won the grand final rematch against Golden Gully to keep the reigning premier Cobras winless.
Just as he did the previous week, Josh Hutchinson (47) top scored for the Cobras, who battled their way to 128 from 7-41 after winning the toss.
Hutchinson and Bradley Smith (37) were able to stem the flow of dismissals with their 72-run stand for the eighth wicket.
Cain Ladiges (3-14 off 6) and Beau Roy-Clements (3-25 off 4.3) combined for six wickets for the Rangas, who replied with 7-144.
Mandurang opener Phill Berry carried his bat in making 56 n.o.
Skipper Brad Webster (3-27 off 8) took the bowling honours for the Cobras
