The Defence Reserves Support Council recognition was a way of highlighting benefits to employers of having defence reservists. It was also a way to recognise employers for allowing reservists the time for a career in the defence force.
Bendigo TAFE employee Geoff Hatcher said his managers valued the skills, experience and training he had received during his time in the Army Reserve.
“A more intangible benefit is the values, ethos and reputation being a member of the Australian Defence Forces entails,” he said.
“Integrity and confidence are highly valued in the private sector, however they are hard to measure.
“My Army Reserve service is a tangible way to demonstrate that I have exhibited these attributes in challenging circumstances outside the business-as-usual environment.”
Bendigo TAFE said in the statement the organisation was deeply flattered by the recognition it had received.
“We particularly aim to accommodate the requirements of those who serve in our defence forces, and the benefits their specialised skillsets can bring to our organisation.”
