Ryan, who earned selection after making a half-century in the second XI in round one, wasn’t required to bat after the Bombers blew their rivals away in empahtic style.
Ryan’s inclusion in the Essendon first XI side meant four of the Dons’ 11 players were products of the Bendigo District Cricket Association.
One of those BDCA products – James Seymour – produced a superb innings to help guide Essendon to victory.
Chasing Casey-South Melbourne’s total of 257 off 50 overs, Seymour and Dons’ skipper Aaron Ayre added 198 for the second wicket.
Seymour fell six runs short of his maiden century at first XI level.
Ayre finished 145 not out as the Bombers won by eight wickets with 10 overs to spare.
Earlier, former Sandhurst spinner Liam Bowe took 1-49 for the Dons, while keeper Isaac Conway claimed one catch.
A quickfire 45 by former White Hills star Brayden Stepien wasn’t enough to lift Carlton to victory in the first XI clash with Dandenong.
Batting at number eight, Stepien blasted 45 to guide the Blues to 201 after they had been in big trouble at 6-117.
Former Strathfieldsaye bowler Xavier Crone made 16 and added 38 for the eighth wicket with Stepien.
Crone was wicketless as Dandenong made 3-202 to win by seven wickets with 43 balls to spare.
Strathdale-Maristians premiership player Andrew Chalkley made four in Monash Tigers’ first XI win over Melbourne.
In second XI action, former Bendigo United paceman Jack Bouwmeester had figures of 0-35 in Carlton’s loss to Dandenong.
Former Bendigo all-rounder Sam Brewin made three in Melbourne’s loss to Monash Tigers and former Bendigo keeper-batsman Xavier Ryan had two catches and one stumping in Essendon’s comfortable win over Casey-South Melbourne.
