The Victorian Men’s Country Teams Championships will be played at Axedale over 54 holes, with 36 on Saturday and the final round on Sunday.
Axedale Golf Club president Andrew Watson said vacancies remained for three-man teams and said local players would have a great chance of success in the aggregate Stableford format.
“Axedale is not a long course, but it’s incredibly demanding of accuracy,” Mr Watson said.
“Our own players are not able to take part in the event as Golf Victoria – probably rightly – feels they would have too great a ‘home course’ advantage.
“But it does not stop players of other Bendigo district clubs who know Axedale well from entering, and I believe they could do well.
“Half the battle at Axedale is knowing on which lines to hit the ball to best approach our greens, and players visiting from around Victoria will have only one Friday practice round to assess the course.
“I really think this is a great opportunity for Bendigo to snag a title, particularly as the aggregate Stableford format opens it up to all-comers.”
Entries cost $390 per team, which includes two breakfasts, two lunches and the Saturday night dinner at Axedale Golf Club.
The official entry form is on golfvic.org.au.
