Things have indeed been curious in Spring Gully during the past few weeks.
Large sections of a building have required careful transportation – causing many to speculate as to what was happening.
But some were quick to recognise an iconic piece of Bendigo architecture – the former creche from Park Road.
The City of Greater Bendigo put the former Bendigo Early Learning Centre building out to tender last year – and Gerard K House Pty Ltd was the successful bidder.
In recent weeks, the building was relocated to an Osborne Street site on behalf of a private owner, who is currently in the design phase or repurposing the building into a private residence.
The building was partially demolished and separated into six sections, which were craned onto specialised hydraulic trucks before being transported with VicRoads escorts to the new location.
The sections were then craned into their existing positions, under newly prepared steel work.
Gerard K House Pty Ltd managing director Gerard House thanked those who assisted with the relocation.
“The move has presented multiple challenges due to its extremely unique steel exoskeleton for which the building holds such great significance,’’ he said.
“It has been an interesting project for all concerned and it’s fortunate that this piece of Bendigo’s history has been preserved.’’
