BENDIGO teenager Tayla Vlaeminck has been selected in a Cricket Australia XI to play England in a pair of 50-over tour matches next week.

Vlaeminck, who opened the bowling for VicSpirit against New South Wales in last Sunday’s Women’s National Cricket League match, was one 13 players chosen in the squad, to be captained by her Victorian teammate and off-spinner Molly Strano.

The matches will serve as a warm-up to the Women’s Ashes, which hits-off with a one-day international in Brisbane on October 22.

Cricket Australia female high performance coach Leah Poulton said the two-match CAXI series was a great chance for the emerging players selected to test themselves against the number one team in the world.

“Opportunities like this ensure we continue to develop the players capable of representing Australia in the future and adding to the depth of talent in Australian cricket,” she said.

Vlaeminck had a mixed weekend in the national league.

The 18-year-old took 2-34 off seven overs in VicSpirit’s Friday night loss to the ACT, but finished with 0-59 off seven overs in a loss to New South Wales on Sunday.

Victoria’s next game is on November 25 at the MCG against Tasmania.

The two matches against England will be played on October 16 and 18 in Brisbane.
