Staff at Fernwood Belconnen got an unexpected visitor on Friday afternoon when a male wallaroo hopped into the gym causing an evacuation.
Giulia De Angelis, who was on the reception desk, said the wallaroo hopped in through the open front doors and appropriately took up residence beneath the punching bags.
"He was so cute and after a while after everyone had moved away he got really comfortable and lay down fell asleep," she said.
Ms De Angelis called the rangers, who told staff to turn the lights off and get patrons away in case he got scared and attacked someone.
The rangers arrived roughly an hour after the wallaroo entered the gym and caught him in a blanket. He was later released in the Aranda bushland.
Ms De Angelis said the ranger, Patrick Harvey, told her wallaroos were quite rare in Canberra.
His visit certainly gave staff and visitors some excitement for their afternoon and left a lasting impression, including a "present" he left in a corner.
