Local cycling and senior citizen groups were hoping to set up a local chapter of Cycling Without Age, a non-for-profit group based in more than 30 countries.
FreeWheeling Fun’s Trevor Miles said the chapter would help people with limited mobility – including senior citizens – connect with volunteers through bike rides on a three-wheeled, pedal powered bikes complete seats for passengers.
“I’m hoping their’s sufficient support from interested organisations for funding,” he said, adding he would also look for available grants.
“I’m also interested in hearing from volunteers. They can be of any age. I come from a cycling background and I’d like to see cyclists volunteer in this way.”
The comments came as six young Danes visited Bendigo to promote CWA. Their tour began in Newcastle and would end in Hobart.
