Two years after she played her last game, Harrower has been announced as one of six new members of the Hall of Fame, which will be held on October 27 as part of Basketball Australia’s Awards night.
“It’s a massive honour. I was hoping one day it could happen just for the fact that playing for the Opals meant so much to me,” Harrower said on Thursday.
“When you are put among some of the best players that Australia has produced, it’s just a huge honour.
“I was fortunate that I was part of a golden era with the Opals and got to play with some of Australia’s best players. I’m really proud and excited to be put into the Basketball Australia Hall of Fame.”
Harrower is one of Bendigo’s greatest sporting products who won three Olympic Games silver medals with the Australian Opals in 2000, 2004 and 2008 and bronze in 2012, as well as gold at the 2006 World Championships in Brazil.
Her CV also includes two WNBL championships with the Bendigo Spirit in 2013 and 2014 before she retired in January, 2015, after announcing she was pregnant.
Son Cooper was born later that year in June and four months ago she gave birth to her second son, Lachlan.
“All I wanted to do when I was younger was just play for Australia and never did I think I’d end up a four-time Olympian with four medals and get to play all around the world,” Harrower, 42, said.
“I set a lot of high goals when I was younger, but never in my wildest dreams did I think I would end up in the Basketball Australia Hall of Fame. I’m sure it will take a bit of time to sink in.”
With her basketball career now behind her, Harrower is kept busy these days with not only Cooper and Lachlan, but owning two Boost Juice franchises in Bendigo.
