Mayor Adrian Weston said two applications were successful under round three of the Bridges Renewal Program, providing funding to replace the Fox Island Bridge in Gunbower and conduct road surface works at the Mount Terrick Road Bridge in Roslynmead.
Under the funding criteria, the council is required to match the funding, which will be allocated through next year’s budget.
“Fox Island Bridge has had speed and load limit restrictions in place since February this year, with detours in place for vehicles exceeding two-tonne,” Cr Weston said.
“The bridge has a considerable level of use, by vehicles and trucks, and scored highly under the grant program criteria. The funding will enable total replacement of the bridge to cater for both vehicles and trucks at a total replacement cost of $1.6 million.”
Cr Weston said the Mount Terrick Road Bridge works would support replacement of the bridge road surface.
“This bridge also has a weight limit in place of 12-tonnes and once complete, will allow unrestricted weight limit access to support the agricultural needs of the area,” he said.
Both projects will be programmed to start in August next year and are expected to take about two months to complete.
In the meantime, Cr Weston said staff would finalise the funding agreement, design works, tender specifications and other processes ready for on-ground works to start.
