Early on Thursday afternoon, a car travelling on High Street, near Bunnings Warehouse, drove onto the median strip and hit a chevron sign, knocked down a light post, and then struck a tree.
The car drove off, but was intercepted by police a short distance a way in Railway Street.
EARLIER: An out-of-control driver has knocked down a light post on High Street at Kangaroo Flat.
The driver hit a chevron sign and the light post on the median strip along High Street near Bunnings Warehouse, before striking a tree.
He then tried to flee the scene in the small red coupe, but was caught by police a short distance away on Railway Street.
Traffic was disrupted for about 20 minutes before the felled light post was moved off the road.
Anyone with information on the incident has been asked to call Leading Senior Constable Todd Deary at Bendigo police station on 5448 1300.
