A long range goal in the third quarter from Calivil United’s Bryce Curnow that was not only full of emotion given it was followed by a salute to the sky in honour of his father, Owen, who died earlier this year, but it also put the Demons in front of Bridgewater by one point.
And the Demons wouldn’t surrender the lead for the rest of match as they kicked away to win by 34 points.
“I haven’t had a chance to really think about what this means, but I did have a few tears late in the game. It was a great effort by the team, but on a personal note, it was absolutely massive to get the win today,” Curnow said.
“I’ve got a heap of family around me today, which is lovely, and I can’t wait to celebrate with them.”
After being well held by Daniel Nalder in the first half, Curnow slotted three goals after half-time – one a kick out of mid-air that bounced through from 35m – as part of the Demons’ run of 10 unanswered in a row.
