The father-daughter team organised Chords for Cancer after Sherri’s dad was diagnosed with stage 2 Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma
“That’s the reason we decided to do this,” Sherri said. “It was a bit of shock but I remember sitting in my room and thinking ‘I’ve got to do something’. I have so many amazing muscial friends and music has helped my entire family. So we decided to do this.”
Sherri said she wanted the funds to be used locally.
“When we decided on cause being musical therapy, I wanted to make sure it would be local,” she said.
“I did the research and so many studies show musical therapy for rehabilitation – for any patient – is one of biggest success stories.
“The mental side of things is one of biggest (battles) when going through cancer. It’s not just getting rid of the disease, it is the need to be able to cope.”
Musicians will donate their time to Chords for Cancer and fill two stages at the Golden Vine from 2pm to 8pm on September 10. Tickets are $15 for adults, $5 for under 18s and free for under 12s. For more find the Chords for Cancer event on Facebook.
