Riding for Orica-Scott, Haig was in 25th place after four stages of the grand tour.
Haig was one minute and 58 seconds behind leader Chris Froome heading into Wednesday night’s 175.7 km fifth stage.
Fellow Bendigo rider Chris Hamilton was in 189th place after four stages.
Making his debut on the big stage, Hamilton was 34 minutes behind Froome.
Hamilton is riding for Team Sunweb.
