THE Victorian government will enshrine the state’s Renewable Energy Target into law this week, setting the target at 25 per cent by 2020 and 40 per cent by 2025.

Two new solar farms will also be built in the state’s north – a 100 megawatt project near Robinvale, and a 38 megawatt project in Numurkah. The successful tenders were announced on Wednesday.
The state government says the Renewable Energy Target auction for up to 650 megawatts of renewable energy would be enough to power Geelong, Ballarat, Bendigo and the Latrobe Valley.
The auction could bring $1.3 billion in investment.
Premier Daniel Andrews made the announcement on Wednesday morning, claiming the move would bring down power prices in Victoria.
He said the renewable energy policies would save the average household $30 a year, medium businesses would save $2500 per year, and large companies would save $140,000 per year.
“More renewable energy means more jobs for Victorians – that’s why we’re setting these ambitious targets and promoting investment in this growing sector,” he said.
“Renewable energy creates jobs, drives growth, and protects our environment – and most importantly, helps drive down power prices for Victorian households and businesses.”
Mr Andrews was joined by cabinet members and independent MPs Suzanna Sheed from Shepparton, and James Purcell from the state’s south west.
