The Scorpions flexed their muscles in a 7-0 triumph over Strathdale on Saturday, allowing them to stay ahead of top-two rival Shepparton United on goal difference.
With a bye fixtured in round 22, Epsom needs to win its remaining two games against Eaglehawk and Colts United and hope Shepparton United drops at least one if its three games to come against Swan Hill, Golden City and Spring Gully United to claim the championship.
The Scorpions are certainly doing all they can to keep United at bay, converting a 2-0 half time lead into a 7-0 victory.
Paige Gordon and Caitlin Robertson also scored for the Scorpions, who also benefited from an own goal.
At McEwan Reserve, Shepparton United kept the pressure well and truly on Epsom with a 5-0 win against rival Shepparton South.
Sophie Papalia was the star for United with a hat-trick, while Chelsea Georgiou and Megan McFarland found the back of the net once each.
United led 3-0 at half time.
At Stanley Avenue, Spring Gully United extended its winning streak to three games following an impressive 3-1 victory against Colts United.
Coupled with a 1-1 draw against Shepparton South in round 16, the Reds have not dropped a game since a 4-3 loss to Strathdale on July 23.
Amelia Campagnaro was the star for Spring Gully, scoring all three of her team’s goals.
She opened the scoring in the 23rd minute, but the Reds had to settle for a 1-1 tie at half time after Colts United Star Rebecca Berry found the back of the net for the 25th time this season just before half time.
Campagnaro added two goals in the second half to guide Spring Gully to its fourth win of the season.
The battle between the league’s two bottom sides was won convincingly by Golden City over Swan Hill.
The Rams were always in control at Ken Harrison Reserve and led 4-1 at half time before going on to score a confidence-boosting 8-1 win over the home side.
Skipper Jasmine Wright and Letesha Bawden inflicted the most damage with three-goals apiece, with Drew Barker and Silver Bell Morris adding to Swan Hill’s misery with singles.
For the second week in a row, Kimberley Phelan found the back of the next for Swan Hill to be her side’s lone goal scorer.
Eaglehawk and Moama-Echuca Border Raiders had byes.
In next Sunday’s games, Epsom hosts Eaglehawk at Epsom Huntly Recreation Reserve, Golden City and Spring Gully United clash at Shadforth No. 1, Shepparton United meets Swan Hill and Shepparton South makes the trip to Deniliquin to play Shepparton South.
