After an episode with my wife who sat for five hours and only received a pain killer and Panadol, we then found the next morning she had suffered a broken humerus. As a person who suffers from Alzheimer's Disease – I found the lack of empathy and treatment disgusting.

I have written a letter of complaint to Bob Cameron, chairman of the board. The claim of caring, compassion and service is just that a claim. The staff are battling to provide a service – but, appear under-staffed.

I find it rather bemusing that so many people are  adamant they need to have a say on who marries whom. As a 71-year-old who has been married to my wife for 50 years it is with disbelief that many  see it  as their  business to have a say that two people who love each other need "my approval" to get married.

One reader in your letters last week said, quote: if the people vote no to gay marriage will the supporters of same -sex marriages accept the decision, or will they stamp their feet like spoilt children? 

I can tell you I would stamp my feet if I had to have permission from the general public to marry the one I love regardless of whether we were in a heterosexual or same-sex relationship.

This postal vote could take us back to the homophobia of the 1950s. Anyone who has a conscience ask yourself this: how will a two same sex married couple affect my life? Surely the answer to this stupid postal vote is YES!!

As the conversation about the vote on same-sex marriage continues, another case of people saying one thing and doing another is starting to emerge.

The widely stated claim is that the majority of Australians support gay marriage. Federal MP Lisa Chesters has put the figure at 70% support. One would expect that she has access to figures to support that.

Now, as I see it, the aim of the whole exercise is to change the law to legalise same sex marriage. If I was agitating for a law change, and was told my agenda had 70% support, I would be rubbing my hands and telling them to hurry up with the voting forms!

For some reason that is not what we are seeing. There seems to be a train of thought that only those who support same-sex marriage have any right to a say in the process. Extraordinary. That is like at the next Federal election, Mr Turnbull announcing that only members of the Liberal Party can vote!

I am one of many who will accept the outcome of this plebiscite vote, regardless of my personal opinion. I kind of suspect that depending on the outcome, that may not be universal.

As a resident of Bendigo I am writting to express my disappointment with the council in the name of the new pool currently under construction in Kangaroo Flat. It is of my opinion that it should either be named after someone who has contributed to the community or just to be politically correct these days called the Kangaroo Flat Aquatic centre. KISS principle works well and creates no offence to anyone. Everyone wins.
