Planning Minister Richard Wynne stopped by the Queen Elizabeth Oval Cottage on Thursday to announce a $200,000 grant to protect the heritage building for future generations.

Located within the former Government Camp precinct now known as Rosalind Park, the cottage is one of Bendigo’s oldest buildings and dates from a colonial era push to create permanent buildings in the area.
The investment will cover urgent conservation works, including floor replacement, stone and brickwork repairs, site drainage works and asbestos removal.
More than 1.9 million people visited Victoria’s heritage buildings, sites or monuments last year – and more than half were international visitors.
Mr Wynne said heritage buildings like the cottage gave the city “a great sense of pride”, while supporting tourism and boosting education for local students.
“We invest in our heritage because we want it to remain at the heart of our suburbs and towns for generations to come – and that’s exactly what these works will ensure,” he said.
Member for Bendigo West Maree Edwards said the cottage was a “must see” for visitors to Bendigo, supporting local tourism jobs and boosting the economy.
