Racing Minister Martin Pakula visited the racecourse on Tuesday to announce a $160,000 contribution from the state government's Victorian Racing Industry Fund towards the purchase and installation of the big screen.
It is expected to be operational in time for the club's marquee Bendigo Cup meeting on November 1 and could be up-and-running as early as the popular beach party race day on October 21.
The 59 square metre big screen will provide a prime view of the on-track action, including live races from around Australia.
BJC chief executive officer Aaron Hearps said the club continually aimed to enhance the raceday experience and believed the big screen would be welcomed by all racegoers.
"It can be hard to get a good view of the track when there are large crowds in attendance," he said.
"But with the big screen in place, everyone will be able to see the action regardless of their position on the racetrack."
The big screen project is the latest of 15 at the BJC to win state government investment since 2014, costing $1.2million.
Mr Pakula said the big screen was the type of infrastructure needed to draw more people to the racetrack.
“I know having been a part of the installation of the big screen at Ballarat, what an enormous difference it makes to the race day experience,” he said.
“It is wonderful for punters, it is wonderful for the club itself and wonderful for all the patrons who are here to enjoy a great day.
“The race day experience is immeasurably enhanced by having a big screen.”
According to state government figures, the racing industry in the Loddon region generates more than $166million annually for the state’s economy and helps sustain 1640 full-time jobs.
Member for Bendigo West Maree Edwards said the big screen would help the BJC create new opportunities for advertising, sponsorship and private functions.
This year’s Jayco Bendigo Cup meeting will be run six days before the 2017 Melbourne Cup.
