Thompson recently won the Australian Open singles and mixed doubles crown for the second year in a row.

He also won the Australian Grand Prix, which earned him selection for an international event in England in mid-September and a place in the Australian team for the World Cup in Japan.

In January, Thompson will return to England to play in the Lakeside World Embassy for the first time.

“Things are going alright,’’ Thompson said.

“I’m pretty happy with the way I’m playing at the moment.”

Before heading overseas, Thompson will take on some of the sport’s most famous names in Australia over the next two weeks.

This Friday, Thompson will play in round one of the Melbourne Masters -  an event that has attracted the likes of 16-time world champion Phil “The Power” Taylor, The Flying Scotsman Gary Anderson and Aussie star Simon Whitlock.

Thompson will compete against a similar field in the Perth Masters next week.

Both events will be televised live on Foxtel.

The draw is yet to be released, but Thompson would love the challenge of playing against Taylor or Anderson.

“A big thrill for me would be to play Gary Anderson – I really like him,’’ Thompson said.

“I’m not going down there to lose. I want to win it all.

“It will be great to have 5000 or 10,000 Aussies in the crowd cheering for me.”
