At least 50 loaves of mouldy bread and rolls were found dumped behind the Emu Creek Hall at the local recreation reserve on Thursday afternoon.
The Woolworths homebrand loaves mostly went out of date in June. They were left strewn alongside a picnic bench near the tennis courts, and were visibly mouldy.
Kerryn Hamilton, who is on the recreation reserve committee, said they had never seen anything like it.
“We would love to know who dumped it,” she said.
“Fortunately the council kindly turned up later in the day on Thursday and cleared it away.”
She suggested a trailer would have been needed to make the deposit, which could have occurred in the last few weeks.
Apart from being the start of occasional bike meets, the recreation reserve is rarely used.
The loaves displayed signs of being inundated by rain.
Birds had started to peck away at the packaging, and the City of Greater Bendigo had been made aware of the dumping.
