The Bulls cruised to a 14.6 (90) to 2.3 (15) victory at Boort to keep in the hunt for the double chance.
It was a forgettable day for the Magpies, who kicked their entire score of 2.3 in the second quarter and they are now holding on to their position in the top four by just two points from their next opponent, Donald.
Birchip-Watchem’s Stephen Paulke (three) and Nathan Gordon (three) both kicked more goals than Boort, while ruckman Lochlan Sirett was again prominent for the Bulls.
With their 5.0 to 0.0 final term, the Bulls have now outscored their opposition 116-1 in their past three last quarters.
Jarrad Nuttall battled hard for the Magpies to be best.
• Donald ended a three-game losing streak with a 59-point victory at home over battling St Arnaud.
The Royals kicked the first seven goals of the game on the path to a 13.15 (93) to 5.4 (34) win.
Anthony Raso, Brody Haddow and Bryan Beckham were strong performers for the Royals, while Seamus Young slotted five goals, including the first three of the match inside 12 minutes.
Jacob Tillig continued his fine form to again be best for the Saints in their eighth loss in a row.
• The in-form Sea Lake Nandaly Tigers defeated Charlton for the first time.
Having lost to the Navies in their previous three encounters since joining the competition last year, this time the Tigers proved too strong, 14.19 (103) to 10.11 (71).
It was the Tigers’ fifth win in a row and keeps them a game clear in second position.
Veteran Colin Durie and Nathan Wight kicked four goals each for the Tigers, who had gun ruckman Ryan O’Sullivan play another top game to be their best.
The experienced duo of coach Aaron Walkate and Anthony Judd (three goals) were best for the Navies.
• For the second time this season Wycheproof-Narraport beat Wedderburn by a triple-figure margin.
Having won by 142 points in round seven, this time the ladder-leading Demons’ margin was 121 points – 21.18 (144) to 3.5 (23).
The Demons’ trio of James Coatsworth (five goals), Andrew Mead-Harding (five) and their best player George Turner (four) all outscored the Redbacks off their own boot.
Callum Crisp was best on a tough day for the Redbacks.
