Detective Leading Senior Constable Shane Bourke said the 19-year-old victim was very lucky and had made a full recovery. He was released from hospital yesterday.

Five other people were injured during the attacks, which escalated in front of Universal at 1am on Sunday.

“There were about six victims in total. As a result, their injuries range from minor injuries to serious,” Detective Leading Senior Constable Bourke said. 

“Virtually all (the injured people) were bystanders. The two main attackers were hitting anyone within reach. 

“A metal bollard was used in an attempt to assault security staff.” 

Police are now appealing for any witnesses to the attacks to come forward.

“We particularly want witnesses who may have mobile phone footage or any video or audio evidence from people who have filmed the assault,” Detective Leading Senior Constable Bourke said.

“We are currently investigating any CCTV in the area.”

UPDATE, 6pm: The man who bore the brunt of a violent attack on Pall Mall last night will be released from hospital. 

The 19-year-old was rushed to Bendigo hospital in a serious condition after two men ejected from Universal nightclub used metal bollards to knock him to the ground. 

The teen’s condition was now stable, a Bendigo Health spokeswoman said.

The violent attack on Bendigo’s popular nightclub strip coincides with a review of the city’s liquor accord, which could see an agreement developed especially for late night venues.

Inspector Shane Brundell said last month there was a cultural shift in younger generations’ drinking behaviour, which he believed was “playing out in licensed venues” across Bendigo. 

The incidents of alcohol-related violence had not shifted dramatically in the 10 years since the accord was introduced, but the type and volume of substances consumed had, and the accord needed to reflect that, Inspector Brundell said.

EARLIER: A teenager was knocked unconscious and two bouncers were last night attacked outside a Bendigo club, with the men responsible still at large.

The incident happened after the two attackers were ejected from Pall Mall nightclub Universal just after 1am.

The pair grabbed hold of metal bollards, used for crowd queue control, and began to assault two bouncers.

The men then hit out at a club patron, a 19-year-old Bendigo man, who was leaving the club at the same time.

The teenager was struck to the face, causing him to fall to the ground and strike his head on the road.

The unconscious victim was taken to hospital with a serious head injury.

Investigators are looking for the two men, who they believe may have been part of a larger group inside the club prior to the incident.
