Police believe at least two offenders broke chains on the gates to Axedale Quarry about 11pm on Friday before forcing their way into a keybox and getting away with a 2016 white Isuzi utility and a 2001 Ford utility.
Those responsible also thieved a white Toyota utility and a fuel trailer but later abandoned both in a paddock on Browns Lane, Axedale.
The vehicle crashed through a wire fence before becoming bogged. The vehicle was still running when police arrived, although the offender had fled.
It is understood some quarry staff were at work when the thieves struck.
Police urged anyone with information to phone their Bendigo station on 5448 1300, or contact Crime Stoppers.
