The W-Class Tram No. 983 is one of 12 in the City Circle fleet that received a complete restoration by Bendigo Tramways talented workshop crew.
Bendigo Heritage Attractions chairman Wayne Gregson said Bendigo Tramways was thrilled to be part of the restoration project.
“Both Yarra Trams and Transport for Victoria entrusted us with the refurbishment of these iconic trams,” he said.
“The Tramways workshop crew have once again pulled out all the stops to deliver a top quality tram for Melbourne to show off on the City Circle route which carries more than three million people a year.”
Tram 983’s complete refurbishment included new impact resistant drivers’ cabs, improved acceleration and breaking, new electronics and wiring to allow for GPS surveillance and improved electrical performance.
It also had a complete rebuild of the body to include better safety features as well as a new paint job.
