McLennan came off second best in a collision with the Magpies’ Jarrad Nuttall that forced the round 13 game to be halted and subsequently called off.
“It was one of those unfortunate things on the footy field with two blokes going real hard at the footy,” Demons coach Julian Bull said.
“Dane weighs about 65kgs and Jarrad is probably 95kgs and they hit each other going for the ball.
“There was nothing untoward in it… Dane was knocked out and there was a fair bit of worry about his neck, but he has broken his jaw.”
With the Charlton ambulance unavailable to attend at the time, an ambulance was dispatched from Sea Lake, which took about an hour to arrive to the ground at Wycheproof.

With the 1st v 3rd contest delayed for more than 30 minutes, under AFL laws of the game the match – which Boort was leading 1.3 to 0.2 at the time – was called off.
And because it was abandoned before half-time it was declared a draw.
• Birchip-Watchem now has a one-game buffer inside the top four after dishing out a 71-point hiding to the sliding Donald at home.
The Bulls kept the Royals scoreless in both the second and final quarters in their 17.10 (112) to 6.5 (41) victory.
Star Birchip-Watchem key forward Stephen Paulke outscored Donald off his own boot with a bag of eight goals – three in the second quarter, two in the third and three in the last as he lifted his tally for the season to 51.
As well as Paulke, the Bulls were also well served by Charlie Hallam (two goals) and ruckman Lochlan Sirett.
Having won five games in a row between rounds six and 10, the Royals have since lost their past three.
Seamus Young kicked three of the Royals’ six goals, while Bryan Beckham was their best player.
• Wedderburn kicked its highest score of the season to defeat Charlton by 38 points in their Woosang Challenge match.
In what was umpire Mal Burge’s 600-game milestone match, the Redbacks won 12.18 (90) to 7.10 (52).
Charlton had led by 12 points at three quarter-time, but the Redbacks piled on 8.6 to 0.4 in the final term.
The eight-goal final quarter came in a season in which the Redbacks have been held to eight goals or less for an entire match in eight of their 13 games.
The Redbacks had a spread of 10 goalkickers, while their best players were led by former coach Daniel Gash, Cameron Perry (two goals) and the ever-reliable Ben DeAraugo.
Saturday’s result at Wedderburn was a 101-point turnaround on their round five meeting, which Charlton won by 63 points.
Josh McKee, Shaun Bowles and Anthony Judd (two goals) headed Charlton’s better players.
