The Filo brothers will lock horns in the coaches box at Camp Reserve when Castlemaine hosts Kangaroo Flat.
The brothers have already faced off once this season, with Shawn’s Roos beating Derrick’s Magpies by 87 points in round five.
“He’s just another coach on Saturday… people seem to make a bit more of it than we do,” Derrick said.
“I really haven’t given it too much thought; it’s all about making sure we get ourselves organised to give ourselves a chance to win.”
After starting the season with a 39-point win over Maryborough, the Magpies have since lost their past 12 games to be sitting on the bottom of the BFNL ladder.
“The past couple of weeks we’re starting to get guys back on the track and we’ve shown some improvement,” Derrick said.
“I thought there was some good signs last week against South Bendigo. They obviously didn’t kick too well (11.22), but we gave ourselves some chances that we couldn’t capitalise on to put them under more pressure.”
The Magpies will go into Saturday’s game with seven players aged between 16 and 19, while the Roos – coming off a 48-point win over Maryborough – are also stacked with youth.
“I’m really happy with the team we’ve got on Saturday. It’s ft, it’s young and has 20 locals in it,” Derrick said.
“There’s no doubt at the start of the year we thought we’d be a lot more competitive, but the positive is we’ve got some kids who are starting to come along nicely.”
