India and Pakistan will play an AFL International Cup match under lights at Wade Street on Friday, August 11, from 7.30pm.
The match has been transferred from Etihad Stadium, with entry to be free.
As part of its build-up to the match, the Indian team will spend a week in Bendigo from this Saturday, with the 17 players to be billeted to families from the Golden Square Football-Netball Club.
The players will train with the Bulldogs during their stay in Bendigo, while the Indian team will play a practice match against some of Golden Square’s younger players next Tuesday.
“It’s exciting to be able to continue to strengthen our relationship with AFL India, which has come about through Golden Square’s trips for Bendigo sports people to Kolkata to help run their National Championships every January,” AFL Central Victoria said in announcing the match.
The AFL International Cup will be held from August 5 to 19 and includes both men’s and women’s competitions.
No expatriate Australians are eligible to play, with teams to comprise solely of amateurs who must be nationals of the country they represent.
