Curnow has 68 goals for the season, one clear of Bridgewater’s Alex Collins with two rounds remaining.
However, Bridgewater has the bye this weekend, while Calivil United is away to Bears-Lagoon Serpentine.
Collins led the goal kicking table going into round 16, but Bridgewater’s shock defeat to Newbridge hurt his chances.
Collins was held to two goals, his lowest tally of the season, by Newbridge full-back Ash Grant. On the same day Curnow bagged six goals against Marong.
Curnow would want to kick a bag of goals this week to feel safe because Collins and the Mean Machine play Marong in round 18. Collins kicked seven goals against the Panthers earlier this year.
Curnow and the Demons face a much tougher final round battle. Calivil United plays Pyramid Hill in the final round of the season in a game the Bulldogs might have to win to make the finals.
