TAKE extra care, VicRoads has warned drivers, as one of the region’s most perilous junctions is upgraded.
Asphalting works at the new Lockwood roundabout – at the intersection of the Calder Alternative Highway and Lockwood Road – will take place this week.
VicRoads expects a change of conditions in the area from Wednesday.
“Reduced speed limits will continue to operate at the intersection, and motorists are asked to take extra care to ensure they navigate the roundabout safely,” VicRoads warned.
“Directional signs will be in place to indicate the flow of traffic, as well as electronic message boards notifying of the change in traffic conditions.”
The asphalting marks an “important phase” in the upgrade works, according to VicRoads.
“Major construction works have been progressing well, and works are anticipated to be completed by November, weather permitting”, regional director Mal Kersting said.
“These works will provide a safer intersection for all users, and we thank motorists for their patience while these works are being undertaken”.
He urged people to observe the changed traffic conditions for their own safety, the safety of other road users, and the safety of workers.
