Gretgrix broke his hand in the Borough’s stirring win over Golden Square on Saturday.
Gregtgrix and the Hawks’ hierarachy were initially concerned that it might have been a season-ending injury, but the dual premiership star confirmed on Tuesday that he will be back in the goalsquare for the finals.
“I’ve had the scans done and it looks like it will be a four-week injury,’’ Gretgrix said.
“The scans have been sent off to the surgeon and I’ll know more after he’s looked at it, but the first reports are that I’ll get back.
“If it is a four-week injury then I should get back for the last round and then the finals.”
Eaglehawk moved to top spot on the back of its win over the Bulldogs.
Gretgrix’s absence won’t help their campaign to claim the minor premiership, but it might give the full-forward the physical and mental break required to get him through the finals.
“I remember last year we got to the finals and I was tired,’’ Gretgrix said.
“I’d rather be out there playing, but this could be a blessing in disguise to freshen me up for the finals.”
The Hawks play Sandhurst (home), Gisborne (away), Kyneton (away), Castlemaine (home) and Maryborough (home) in the final five rounds of the home and away season.
Eaglehawk coach Josh Bowe (hamstring) missed the win over Golden Square and remains in doubt for the clash with Sandhurst.
The Dragons are likely to regain star midfielder Andrew Collins and forward Pascale Craig.
Sandhurst, which started the season as BFNL premiership favourites, sits one game and percentage outside of the top five heading into round 14.
An upset win over the Hawks would go a long way to securing the Dragons a finals berth because they have the best run home of the teams battling for fourth and fifth positions.
The Dragons’ run home is Eaglehawk (away), South Bendigo (home), Maryborough (away), Kangaroo Flat (home) and Gisborne (home).
