The Magpies trailed by two points with less than a minute to go when Tardrew roved the ball from a stoppage and calmly slotted a goal from 45m out.
Tardrew’s first goal at VFL level lifted the Pies to a 14.20 (104) to a 16.6 (102) victory.
Strathfieldsaye premiership player Matt Smith was one of Collingwood’s best players in the win, while former Bendigo Pioneers forward Kayle Kirby kicked two goals, including a crucial major from the forward pocket late in the final quarter.
Former Pioneers and Leitchville-Gunbower midfielder Marty Hore was also part of Collingwood’s winning team.
Collingwood is in 11th spot, one game outside of the top eight.
Former Bendigo Pioneers midfielder Koby Mutch continued his push for an AFL call-up with Essendon.
Mutch was best afield for the Bombers’ VFL team in its loss to the Casey Scorpions.
Ryley Barrack was second best for Werribee in the Tigers’ 45-point loss to the Box Hill Hawks.
