EARLIER: V/Line is warning commuters to expect major delays for all trains travelling through Sunshine, including the Bendigo line.
The delay is due to a signal fault and there is limited movement of trains between Footscray and Sunshine.
Other lines affected include Ballarat and Geelong.
V/Line said in a statement just after 6am that delays of up to 60 minutes are expected.
Signal technicians have been directed to the scene.
Some Geelong trains may travel via the suburban network during the disruption.
The Age is also reporting disruption on the metro network, with major delays at 6.20am across the Lilydale lines and minor delays on the Cranbourne, Craigieburn, Frankston, Glen Waverley, Pakenham and Sunbury lines.
V/Line said in the statement the Metro Trains services were not affected by the same signal fault.
