A truck slid off the road on the Calder Freeway at Kyneton after hitting black ice, but the driver escaped without injury.
Drivers who hit black ice are advised to use the accelerator, brakes and steering wheel as little as possible until they clear the icy patch; if a vehicle brakes hard or steers in the opposite direction, it increases the risk of spinning out.
Temperatures in Bendigo dipped as low as -1.2 degrees at 5.30am, but the apparent temperature at that time was a very chilly -5.1 degrees.
A morning frost was forecast across the region, with Castlemaine in particular warned of severe frosty conditions.
But the day is expected to be a sunny one, with tops of 12 degrees in Bendigo, Castlemaine and Maryborough, 10 degrees in Kyneton, and 13 degrees in Redesdale and Echuca.
It is expected to be another frosty morning in parts of the region on Saturday, with temperatures forecast to fall as low as -2 in Redesdale and 0 in Bendigo and Echuca.
The frost follows a snowy afternoon at Mount Macedon on Thursday.
Snow began falling at the top of the ranges about 3.15pm and was captured by the cameras at the Top of the Range Tea Rooms.
