The Bendigo Nexus Youth Theatre production entered production week on Monday where cast and crew will step through dress and technical rehearsals for the last time.
Opening on Thursday, July 27, Nexus’ production of Phantom will be the first time in the southern hemisphere a youth theatre group has performed the show.
Mason Hingston will take on the iconic role of the Phantom while Erin Mannix and Kody Austin will play Christine and Raoul Duke respectively.
The show has already received strong celebrity support with Andrew Lloyd Webber sending the company a letter wishing the production well.
“With all good wishes for a wonderful opening night and an enjoyable and successful run,” he wrote.
Lara Martins and Paul Tabone who are currently starring in the West End Cast as Carlotta and Piangi have recorded a personal shout out of congratulations to us from backstage.
Cast have also got the chance to development their characters with Andrea Creighton working with Nexus performer Tara Glozier for an afternoon.
Liz Robertson who plays Madam Giry in the West End and earlier in her career played Christine on Broadway also sent a message of support.
John Bowles, who played leading man Raoul in the Australian National Tour agreed to Skype the entire cast next week from London to wish them well and to give some pointers.
Bendigo Nexus Youth Theatre’s Phantom of the Opera is on at The Capital theatre from July 27 to to July 29 and August 3 to 5 at 7pm. Matinee show are on from 1pm on July 29 and August 5.
