Firefighters were called to the Byron Street house in Quarry Hill after a mischievous dog had chased its fluffy sibling under a seat.
The kitten sought refuge in the framework of the recliner, but became stuck in the process.
The team four of firefighters arrived just after 5am to find the feline fairly distressed and set to work in freeing it.
Senior station officer Craig Houlahan said the kitten was caught in the tips of the recliner and, thanks to the team’s leading firefighter and his expert rescue techniques, the kitten escaped unscathed.
Mr Houlahan said it was the first cat he’d seen trapped in a couch.
